In 1985, Bahrain Kuwait Insurance Company became the first Bahraini insurance company with its own dedicated headquarters when it opened BKIC House in Diplomatic Area. In 2012, BKIC moved to its new state-of-the-art tower in Seef District, providing an excellent ambience to its employees and a conveniently located premises to its customers.
BKIC is a founder member of Gulf Assist, established in 1994, and is the first insurance company to introduce road-side assistance for its motor insurance clients in Bahrain. As a pioneer in introducing these services, BKIC invested in increasing the market awareness about road-side assistance. These services subsequently became part of all motor comprehensive policies issued by various insurers.
Through it strategic alliance with Gulf Warranties in January 1996, BKIC was the first insurer to introduce extended warranty for automobiles in Bahrain, with the primary objective of offering clients extended warranty over and above the warranty offered by the car manufacturers.
BKIC along with Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK) launched the first bancassurance operations in Bahrain and among the first in the region, back in year 2000 under the name "Secura", with a full-fledge IT system enabling the bank staff to issue insurance policies to their customers on the spot. Today, BKIC and BBK are gearing up for the official launch of the revamped Secura, with enhanced product options, much advanced IT system with an online referral module and a more effective marketing plan.
BKIC was the first to collaborate with Bahrain Post more than a decade ago to offer insurance services through Bahrain Post's wide network of offices, a service channel that many insurers adopted at a later stage. Through this collaboration, the customers of BKIC were able to renew their Motor Third Party policies at any Bahrain Post office.
The company was the first national insurer to be interactively rated by a reputed rating agency in 2005. BKIC was also the first national insurer to be awarded Financial Strength rating of "A-" by AM Best in 2011.
In 2007, the company introduced a new concept for its branches with the opening of its first Personal Lines Insurance Center (PLIC) in Muharraq Governorate in Arad, with the objective of providing focused and enhanced services to individual clients. Following Arad PLIC opening, the PLICs of Riffa, Diplomatic Area and Seef were also opened.
In 2013, the company launched the first-of-its-kind bundle of services in the local insurance market and perhaps in the region named Pick Up and Delivery Bundle of Services along with its Comprehensive Motor Policies. Through these services, BKIC customers are able to arrange for their cars to be picked up and taken to the agent for its regular maintenance or to the Traffic Directorate for the annual traffic Inspection and registration for a nominal fee. Customers are also able to avail of other related services.
Bahrain Kuwait Insurance was voted as the winner of the 2013 MEIF Institutional Excellence Award from a short-list of nominees through a unique industry-based voting system. The Award, which is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the industry, is designed to recognize institutions that have made a significant contribution to the regional insurance industry.
